The name “Fleetwood” is probably the most recognized brand nationally in both RVs and manufactured homes, and with good reason. The Riverside, CA company, started in 1950, turns out a heck of a lot of product that leaves its factories on wheels. This large, publicly held company has had a wild roller coaster ride over the past 20 years. It’s principal product offering on the housing side has been models geared to the entry level to low-end-of-the-mid-range (average price about $28,000). Fleetwood may produce more single section homes than any other MH company. Overall, the construction quality seems to vary depending on the plant in which the home is built.
Much more about this manufacturer, including its construction quality on a one-to-ten scale and the states where its homes are sold, can be found in The Grissim Ratings Guide to Manufactured Homes, the latest edition of which is now featured in our bookstore. Written by veteran journalist and consumer advocate John Grissim, the Ratings Guide is widely considered the most complete, authoritative, and reliable source of independent information on manufactured homes.
