All Manufactured Homes (mobile
homes) produced since the mid '70's are HUD approved - manufactured to federal
specifications. At each factory one or more HUD inspectors continuously monitors
production. Minor problems are pointed out and fixed on the spot. Larger problems can lead
to a home being "red tagged". A red tagged home can not leave the factory
without being fixed. In extreme cases, production can be stopped by the inspector.
As a
contrast, Modular homes are made to state specifications, and panelized (pre-made
wall segments) homes usually follow the local building codes.
